Home — IKEA Ivar bedroom makeover
Interior Design
It took a while but our bedroom is finally graced with a decent wardrobe!
Bye bye messy boxes, hello Kondo-friendly life.
Deciding on what wardrobe to pick was not easy. We wanted to go for the most sustainable option we could afford (obviously that didn’t leave many options open). My biggest fear was to end up with a huge closet that was impossible to take down and move, if ever necessary. Offcourse our life goal one day is a made to measure hardwood wardrobe but not yet, definitely not in our tiny rental apartment.
We already realised that if you want a moveable, multifunctional, sustainable, wooden closet Ivar is the best option IKEA has to offer. Our living room, bathroom, storage space and office can already vouch for that. The only thing we had to figure out was how to adapt the Ivar storage racks into a decent wardrobe that doesn’t look like you are living in a storage space.
Marie Kondo inspired me to go for the overload of drawers, although there already filling up nicely. Yes, also our underwear and socks are Konmari proof.
By mounting the Ikea Kungfors kitchen rail to a shelf we created a rack for our hangers, almost the real deal.
Our exact recipe?
– 4 Ivar side units 50 x 226cm
– 5 Ivar shelves 50x 83cm
– 3 Ivar drawer units 80 x 57cm
– 1 Ivar cabinet 80 x 50 x 83cm
– 2 Kungfors rails 56cm
Steal it if you want to or even better, adapt it!
